Nikon Coolpix 5400 Digital Camera

A new dimension has been added to the Nikon line-up with the introduction of the Coolpix 5400 digital camera with a combination of enhanced features and new design elements. Its combination of Nikkor ED optics, wide angle coverage, and their exclusive Best Shot Selector, this camera is a welcome addition to any photographers’ collection.

This durable and lightweight camera features a 5.1 megapixel CCD that captures images at up to 2592 x 1944 resolution. Its wide angle Nikkor-Zoom lens has a maximum 4x optical zoom coupled with a step-less 4x digital zoom giving a total of 16x zoom capability.

The lens is made up of nine elements in eight groups and uses an Extra-Low Dispersion (ED) glass along with two a-spherical lenses. This gives the Nikkor lens a focal length range of 5.8mm to 24mm giving it the equivalent focal range of a 28-116mm 35mm lens.

The Coolpix 5400 also has fifteen preset shooting choices known as Scene Modes. With a simple selection on the dial you can set the cameras internal processor to maximize certain types of shots such as portraits, panoramas, dusk/dawn, landscapes, fireworks and a bunch more. Add to this functionality a shutter speed from 1/4000 of a second to ten minutes and the Ultra Macro Mode for close-ups at a range of .4 inches there is almost no shot you cannot get.

The Best Shot Selector allows you to take up to five consecutive shots which the camera then analyzes and discards the bad ones and saves the best one. The Auto Exposure Best Shot works the same way by comparing the tonal range and gradation of your five shots, keeping only the best of the bunch. This is done through the cameras 64 MB of integrated buffer that stores several shots for analysis before the final shot is saved to the CompactFlash card.

You can use either Type I or Type II CompactFlash cards for image storage as well as 512 MB and 1GB MicroDrives. Uncompressed TIFF-RGB or compressed JPEG formats are the files types that can be saved to storage and downloaded to your PC or MAC via a USB cable and connection.

The Nikon Coolpix 5400 digital camera is a upper mid-range camera that will please even the most discerning of photographers. With excellent functionality built in its ease of use and high quality images make this camera hard to pass up.
